A Story of Resilience: The Journey of Mr. Balram Khadka & His Family

In the hills of Baglung, a young boy was born into the proud family of an ex-Gurkha soldier, Mr. Balram Khadka. The family was respected, prosperous, and rooted in discipline and honesty. But life had its own plans.

When Mr. Khadka was still small, tragedy struck. His father passed away in Silang, India. His mother, left alone and unfamiliar with the long process of collecting military pension documents, struggled. Every attempt the family made to retrieve the pension from the Indian government led nowhere. The loss of a father and the loss of the entitled pension hit the family deeply.

Growing up, Mr. Khadka often visited Lakeside, Pokhara, staying at his sister’s home. The vibrant energy of Lakeside always made him dream bigger.

As he grew older, he married and soon left for Malaysia, like many Nepali youths searching for opportunities. But he was different — hardworking, honest, and quick to learn. Slowly, he earned trust. Then respect. And finally, a promotion to Supervisor. His earnings grew, and so did his confidence.

He invested wisely, buying land and lending money to people in need. But honesty doesn’t always bring honest returns. Many never paid him back. To cover the losses, he was forced to sell some of his land — a painful reminder that kindness is not always rewarded.

Back in Nepal, he started a business in Lakeside that grew wonderfully. But then came Corona. Tourism stopped. His thriving business sank almost overnight. Yet, he didn’t loose hope.

He stood tall.

During the lockdowns, he even planted the first trees of what is now his own Orange Farm in his village — one more symbol of hope.

Today, his business has risen again. He runs a Bike Hiring service, a restaurant in Lakeside,Brijon Fast Food Centre  and manages 12 motorbikes, all operating from 7:00 AM till late night — sometimes even till 2:00 AM during peak season.

His wife, a pillar of strength, stands beside him in every struggle. She handles the shop, runs operations, and gives him the confidence to push forward. His son and daughter, working abroad, are proud of the legacy he is building.

Khadka smiles not only in happy days but even in the hardest moments — and that is his real superpower. Every smile is a reminder of where he started and how far he has come.

His story is proof that failure cannot defeat those who refuse to give up.

A boy who lost his father…A young man who rebuilt his life abroad…A husband who stood strong…A father who kept dreaming…A businessman who rose again even after losing everything…

This is the story of persistence, love, and an unbreakable Nepali spirit.A story worth sharing. A story worth remembering.
